Party: Ava’s Pinkalicious Party

edits182My sweet sweet niece, Ava, is turning 3 and this little spitfire is a total Princess.  What better way to celebrate her than a PINKALICIOUS party!

For those of you who haven’t heard, there is a book series called Pinkalicious and if you haven’t guessed it; Pinkalicious loves PINK.  Here is a quick summery from Pinkalicious:

Pink, pink, pink! More than anything, Pinkalicious loves pink, especially pink cupcakes. Her parents warn her not to eat too many of them, but when Pinkalicious does . . . she turns pink! When the pink does not wash off, she is told by her doctor to eat only green food to get better. Instead, she eats just one more pink cupcake! Pinkalicious has gone too far this time and in order to return to normal, she knows just what she has to do.

This sparkling picture book celebrates all things pink while showing that being yourself is best of all.

It is such a cute book and makes for a great party theme.  Our little Ava doesn’t need to be pink to be beautiful…she already is and so was her special day!

Birthday: Ava’s First

Sweet baby Ava turned 1 in May. What better way to celebrate her birthday than a cupcake bar? The party started at 10am so the oatmeal cupcakes were a huge hit. The place was filled with lots of color and sugar. It was a perfect fit for Miss Ava’s sweet little personality. To see pictures from Ava’s Sip n See click here.

Mother’s Day Week: Party Ideas

One person who really inspired me to plan events is my sister, Sarah.  Her and her sister-in-law, Amber from The Hot Chocolate plan a Mother’s Day party every year for the special women in their lives.  Even though I wasn’t a mother until last year, I always went along with my mom and when I started dating my husband, his mother came along as well.  I thought it would be a perfect start to this Mother’s day week to share with you some of the fun Mother’s Day parties they came up with.  If you are a local, this one is for you.  These parties are perfect for Mother’s Day but also, for birthdays, showers and other small gatherings.

In the beginning, the parties started with just a brunch.  Sarah and Amber are both amazing cooks so a brunch alone was worth it.  However, they started adding an activity element to the parties, which stepped it up to a whole new level.

Here are a few of their fun ideas.

Flip-Flop making: After dinner we sat around a table with hundreds of fabric strips to make fun flip flops for the summer.Photo and instructions here.

Bath Junkie: We all made our own bath scrubs to pamper ourselves later.Photo found here.

Firehouse pottery: We painted our personal items and then together, we made a large plate with everyone’s names on it.Photo found here.

Skinny Improv: We ate dinner at Trolley’s downtown and then headed over to the Skinny for a night of laughter.

Ice Cream Social:  An ice cream bar full of flavors and toppings followed by a Bunko tournamentPhoto found here.

Honeymoon Contest Winner!

Thank you to all that participated in our honeymoon contest. Not only did we want to award a yummy prize to The Hot Chocolate, we also wanted to collect an array of inspiring honeymoon ideas from real brides to share with brides-to-be. We were in love with each and every honeymoon spot and story (it made us want to plan a vacation ASAP!). However, we could only have one winner.

And that winner is…..

MELISSA!

Melissa and hubby, Josh, went on a very recent honeymoon to Costa Rica (they are newly-newly weds, as they just married last month!). Melissa might look familiar, because she is a Social Graces’ bride. You’ve already seen her Mad Men wedding shower, and you will be pleased to know that her beautiful wedding will be featured here tomorrow! Here’s what Melissa had to say about their trip:
Josh and I went to the Northern Pacific coastline of Costa Rica for our honeymoon! Costa Rica has untamed, natural beauty—from spectacular bluffs to warm ocean waters below, from white, to brown, to black beaches, from exotic birds, to monkeys, to iguanas–this trip was truly paradise! We were completely impressed with the unspoiled rainforest, farm land, and volcanic fields that created the diverse landscape we saw everyday.  Our honeymoon was a combination of relaxation and adventure! Some days we relished the tropical sun by laying out at the beach or the pool with a tropical drink in hand.  Others, we packed up and headed to the rainforest to zip-line across the forest’s canopy, horseback ride down the bluffs, and rush down a mile long water slide through the woods!  But, my most favorite was our adventures to the mud baths and hot springs–we got to rub mud all over ourselves and then relax in the natural hot springs under a volcano.  We also didn’t miss out on sailing, snorkeling, exploring underwater caves, dolphin spotting and watching the beautiful Costa Rican sunset over the ocean.  I think Social Graces put it well–traveling with the one you love is the best!

Congrats, Melissa, on the recent marriage, gorgeous honeymoon and contest win! We will contact you on how to claim your prize.

Stay tuned for a very special honeymoon blog series next week – featuring other contest entries!
