Real Wedding: Nick and Ashley

Today’d wedding comes from a girl who knows style and knows how to executes exactly what she wants. We featured her wedding invitations here back in April. Thank you Ashley for sharing your beautiful day with us.

From Ashley: The most special moment of the day was seeing Nick for the first time. The only thing that he was adamant about in the whole wedding process was not doing a first look. It was definitely one of the most special moments of the day because I knew how much it meant to him.

My favorite detail of the day was probably the kids parade that started the procession. I wanted to include all of the kids from the church and our family in the day somehow, so I decided to have a parade of all of the kids. Though I didn’t get to see it live, I got to sneak a peek on a live video feed in the lobby. My cousin’s daughter took her raggedy blanket with her and one of my friend’s sons wouldn’t sit down, so his dad had to chase him down the aisle back to his seat – it was PERFECT!The thing that probably most inspired our decor was trying to stay on a budget. Necessity is the mother of invention, so I invented a lot of things. I’m so happy with how everything came together and it was so special to have literally touched every detail of the entire day (I still have the sewing callouses to prove it!)

My best advice to anyone planning a wedding is to focus on the fact that you’re starting a marriage. Little things might get to you or you might have a major catastrophe threaten to ruin your big day, but at the end of that big day, make sure you’re looking forward to a life with the person you love the most, and as long as that happens, everything else is just a good story.

On a practical note, make list of the three things that are most important to you. Mine were keeping the day stress-free, having a fun reception, and having great pictures. Every decision we made was informed by these three things – from the size of the wedding party and what they would wear to bargain shopping for fabric to keep the budget within the right parameters. It actually made planning much easier! The vendors that I would like to promote are the Sugar Shack Bakery (who made our cupcakes and beautiful cake) and our photographer (283 Photography from Sioux Falls).
