Tequila Lime Buttercream
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter (softened)
1 lb. powdered sugar (1/2 bag- give or take)
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 1/2 tablespoon lime juice
2 tablespoons lime zest
2 tablespoons tequila
1/2 tablespoon milk
Green & yellow food coloring: however many drops you want to make the frosting look lime-y- about 1 green drop to every 3 yellow (optional)

Cream the butter and shortening with your stand mixer. Add the vanilla, lime juice, zest, and tequila. Mix until combined. Add the powdered sugar. Start with about half the bag. Add the milk and if the frosting is too soft, add more powdered sugar. Add the food coloring if you want now and then Whip the frosting for 3-5 minutes and then frost your cooled cupcakes. After I frosted my cupcakes, I rolled the edges of the frosting in sugar (to mimic a margarita glass)

Valentines Day: Free Printable

In the spirit of Valentines Day next week, We thought we’d share a fun little FREE printable for you from Inspired by Charm

The designers thoughts on her printable: The other day I stumbled across this video on youtube of darren criss (yes, i watch glee and love every minute of it). the part of the video where he mentions the song lyric form ‘at last’ – my heart was wrapped in clover – stood out to me.

I’ve always sang those lyrics but never understood what i was singing. this happens to me a lot. so i did a little google search to uncover the meaning of ‘in clover’. it turns out its a term of endearment. it means that the person was absolutely smitten. aww. beautiful, right?

so, with that, i was inspired to make this little print. great for all year long, but kind of perfect for valentines day.
here is the link to a free PDF copy of the print. once you download it, just print it from your computer printer like i did. once it’s framed, no one will ever know! it’s our little secret.

Table Setting Etiquette

Setting a table seems like a simpl task, but can often be confusing. Sometimes you are so focused on the centerpieces, linens, and other decor that you might miss the mark on how a table is to be properly set. When I think of table etiquette, my mind goes to good ‘ol southern charm and tradition. After living in the south for a few years, myself, I realized that these ladies know how to do it right. Saved by Southern Charm posted the perfect diagram for any party, formal or informal. Make sure to bookmark this for your next big night of entertaining!

Sweet Little Details: Surprise Red Velvet Cupcakes

It is the most wonderful time of the year and I absolutely love all the goodies and sweet treats out there.   Jen Campbell from Sweet Little Details has given us a very yummy Christmas treat.  Thanks Jen, enjoy!

Surprise Red Velvet Cupcakes makes 2 dozen cupcakes

You can use a boxed Red Velvet Cake mix if you would like…just prepare as normal.

Filling

I like to use more than just a heaping teaspoon of filling…so I normally will double this recipe.

1 8oz package cream cheese, softened
1 egg
1/3 cup sugar
8-10 ounces of white chocolate chips

In a small bowl, blend cream cheese, egg and sugar. Beat until smooth. Add white chocolate chips.

Red Velvet Cake

The cake recipe is from Bakerella

2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1 Tablespoon cocoa
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups oil
1 cup buttermilk
1 Tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 oz. red food coloring

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line 24 standard muffin cups with cupcake liners.

Lightly stir eggs in a medium bowl with a wire whisk. Add remaining liquid ingredients and stir together with whisk until blended. Set aside. Place all the dry ingredients in your mixing bowl and stir together really good with another wire whisk. Add wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix on medium-high for about a minute or until completely combined.

Fill prepared pans 2/3 full and top with heaping teaspoon of filling. Bake at 350 for 20 -25 minutes.

If you choose to frost these cupcakes, cool completely before frosting.

Cream Cheese Frosting

2 8 oz packages cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 pounds confectioners sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla

Cream together cream cheese and butter. Beat in vanilla. On low speed, add confectioners sugar a little at a time. Once all sugar has been added increase to medium speed until frosting is creamy.

Black Friday: Shop or Decorate?

To shop or to decorate on Black Friday? Social Graces is a split house on this question. Becca puts me to shame with the sacrifice she is willing to make for deals on Black Friday. I, on the other hand, just can’t seem to make myself do it. In fact, in college, all my friends would get up really early and spend the whole day shopping…without me. I’d tell them to call me and I’d meet them for lunch. :)

Usually, I spend that day decorating our home (although this year, we will be out of town, so decorations will be a little postponed). Our living space has mostly hues of blue, green and brown, so the traditional Christmas colors don’t quite fit. I decided to search Pinterest to see what new ideas I could implement this year. Here’s some inspiration.

Something Borrowed: Autumn Engagement Party

We borrowed this Autumn themed Engagement Party from Celebrations at Home. Its cute, fun and totally DIY-able (did I just make up that word/phrase?).  Although its styled for an engagement party, it could easily translate into a theme for a wedding, party or shower.
