DIY: Cake Stands

Social Graces created cakestands for a cupcake bar in the winter edition of 417 Bride and today we’d like to share this DIY with you.

Image by Amy Pennington found here.

Supplies:

Jars/vases/candlesticks, whatever you’d like to use

Small plates

Sanding paper

Glue

Spray paint

Instructions:

1) Sand the stands and plates a bit to help the paint stick better.

2) Glue the plates to the stands and let dry according to the instructions on the glue package.

3) Paint the stands the desired color then let dry.

That’s it!  Easy DIY for your next party.

Tip:  These stands are easily reusable.  Change the paint color according to your party theme.  Just simply paint over the existing color.

DIY: Embroidery Hoops

Our intern, Alli, made these awesome lace Embroidery Hoops for our 417 Bride shoot a couple of weeks ago.

Simply decide on your fabric and place inside the hoops. Cut off the excess fabric and glue the remainder of the fabric around the back side. To see a detailed look at this type of project, check out this post on the Purl bee.

DIY: Chalkboard Planter

So simple, I probably don’t even need to put words with these pictures! Just buy a can of chalkboard paint, tape off a section and paint away. Follow the paint’s directions about a second coat. With most chalkboard paints you will have to wait a few days before you are able to write with chalk.

This looks great in our kitchen, but would be fun as a centerpiece at a party or filled with candy on a dessert table.

Baby Annabelle’s Owl Shower

If you have been following along, you will notice three DIY’s in this post that we have previously shared: 1. Owl Invitations, 2. Owl Menu Tags, and 3. Music Name Bunting. Annabelle’s mom plans to put up an owl wall decal in her nursery, so we thought we would use that theme for the shower. It turned out pretty cute.

DIY: Spring Paper Bunting

Spring is definitely in the air! I pulled together this fresh and springy paper bunting for our recent 417 Bride shoot. It’s so simple that its impossible to mess up!

Begin with your choice of card stock paper, twine/ribbon/yarn, paper cutter or scissors and a whole punch.

Cut paper to desired size and place two holes at the top of each piece.

Insert twine through holes.

And you’re done! Use your bunting for a shower, party, wedding or household decor.

DIY: Music Name Bunting

I love bunting for parties because it is allows for creativity with your theme. Whatever your theme/colors may be, you can almost always figure out a way to incorporate that into bunting. For more SIL’s baby shower, I used materials from the Menu Tags to create this unique Name Bunting.

Supplies:

  • Colorful paper
  • Hymn or book pages
  • Paper cutter
  • Stamp & ink pad
  • Glue
  • Twine (not shown)
  • Hole punch (not shown)
  • Sharpie (not shown)

Cut the hymn/book page to the desired shape and size. Stamp and draw letter on the paper.

Glue hymn/book page to colorful paper and cut out (I make straighter lines with the paper cutter, but scissors are certainly an option, as well!).

Punch two holes at the top of the bunting. Pull twine through.

End result: a simple, colorful and theme-oriented party bunting!

DIY: Cork Coasters

I came across these super cute cork coasters on the Heartmade Blog and thought I’d give it a whirl. It seemed easy enough, especially since I enlisted my husband to do the cutting. :)

Supplies you’ll need:

  • at least 25 wine corks (you can buy these at Target)
  • hot glue gun with glue sticks
  • thin cork paper circles (you can buy these at Hobby Lobby)
  • a pocket knife
  • a cutting board coarse sand paper

First, cut all of your corks in half, long ways.

Next, glue the corks onto the coaster base until its completely covered.

Turn the coaster over and cut off the edges. Then sand around the edges to make a smooth line.

And, there you have it! A fun DIY project for your home or party. It could be a cute favor or gift as well.

DIY: Wood Sign

For the rustic pink baby shower featured on Monday we made a pretty little sign to use as decoration. Now, the sign resides in Miss Willow’s nursery. It’s super easy and adds a nice personal touch.

Here is what you need:
scrap wood
spray paint
small sticks
hot glue (not pictured)

Instructions:
1) Paint wood panel with color of choice, depending on color you use, will depend on how many coats you will need.
2) After the paint has fully dried, arrange the sticks on the board in the desired order.
3) Start gluing.

Enjoy!

DIY: Enamel-Painted Vases

I recently came across this super cute idea presented on Sugar and Charm‘s blog. It is somewhat reminiscent of the glass vases that my mom and I spray painted white for my brother’s wedding last fall. We followed this tutorial for that project. However, Sugar and Charm, takes the painted glass vase to a whole other level – they paint the inside of the vase! It creates a really cool effect.

Supplies needed: Three different sized vases, dishwasher safe PermEnamel paint, PermEnamel Surface Condition, paper towels, paint brush and a mixing bowl.
